4 tramline field trial

Comprehensive nutritional programme based on tissue analysis. Four tramlines to receive a small amount of Amide N to in an attempt to prolong flowering, boost pod development and seed size.

  • Tissue samples taken at the onset of flowering. Any deficiencies were addressed with trace element applications
  • Second tissue analysis taken in mid to late flowering in the trial area and control. Deficienecies to be dealt with based on tissue results.
  • Proposing another small Amide N application to trial area mid to late flowering.

Pulses are leguminous crops harvested for dry protein-rich seed, with peas (pisum sativum) and beans (vicia faba) being the major crops in the UK.

Nitrogen is required annually by most crops (except pulses) to achieve yield and quality. Judging how much N to apply is a key part of nutrient management.

Plants need around 12 essential mineral nutrients to grow: Nitrogen (N), Phosphorous (P), Potassium (K), Magnesium (Mg), Sulphur (S), Calcium (Ca), Iron (Fe), Manganese (Mn), Zinc (Zn), Copper (Cu), Boron (B) and Molybdenum (Mo).

Farmers are taking part in and being paid for on-farm trials as part of the NCS project.
