AdvisoryNetPEST - A new UK and EU-wide project aiming to increase the sharing of knowledge and the adoption of innovative solutions to reduce the use and risks of pesticides through a network of advisors.

Context

In the pursuit of alternative crop protection approaches, driven by a combination of environmental, health, regulatory, economic, and societal factors, advisors are looking for novel ways to ensure the long-term viability and sustainability of agricultural systems. To support access and uptake of these novel approaches, ADAS is involved in a new EU-wide project to create a network of advisory services and increase communication and collaboration within and between countries.

Our Approach

AdvisoryNetPEST is a new EU-funded project that aims to enhance connections between agricultural knowledge exchange networks, increasing the sharing of knowledge and the adoption of innovative solutions to reduce the use and risks of pesticides.

Starting in early 2024 and spanning five years, the project involves coordination among 27 EU member states and the UK, focusing on four regional clusters and four cropping sectors. In the UK, ADAS will be involved in arable and horticulture, soft fruit and ornamental production, and will collaborate closely with advisors in Ireland for knowledge exchange in these sectors. Some countries in other regions of Europe are also working in orchards and vineyards.

Advisors within these networks will provide insight into novel approaches that allow for the reduced use and risk of pesticides. The project also has a strong emphasis on policy engagement, and ADAS will be analysing current regulations to produce timely recommendations.
