Kindling Farm was established in February 2023, after running a successful community shares campaign which raised over £1m from nearly 800 investors across the country (and world!) After their first year preparing the ground both physically and metaphorically, they are now at the point of planting out the 2,000 fruit and nut trees that will make up their agroforestry system.

For the OGA’s second on-farm event of the year, the team at Kindling will explain the process of setting up their agroforestry system, from the very first steps of getting enough volunteers to graft thousands of trees, to designing the layout of the system and planting the trees.

The day will start with a brief tour of the farm, leading to the fields where the trees have been planted which is where the talk will begin. We will then head back to the main buildings to share lunch together, with time to ask more questions and talk about the farm before heading home.

More about Kindling Farm

The initial vision of Kindling Farm was to create a resilient, localised food system in the North West of England, using the most sustainable methods of farming to grow healthy and nutritious food for people across Greater Manchester.

It began nearly two decades ago with a group of friends who were committed to radically transforming the local food system, setting up the Kindling Trust with the aim of estbalishing many independent projects aligned to doing just that. Since then they have set up Woodbank Community Food Hub, an urban market garden in the heart of Stockport which runs growing courses and volunteer sessions, and Veg Box People, a veg box scheme providing food to over 300 people across Manchester. Kindling Farm will bring together all these vital projects to further transform the way we see food and farming in the North West.
