The multi-year trial, monitored by PGRO, will be evaluating a few aspects of including legumes in a standard crop rotation.

Objectives:

  1. To evaluate how to maximise the output of legumes in a crop rotation.
  2. To evaluate the feasibility of a legume fallow mix to achieve SFI’s objectives.

Trial Location: Grange Farm, Wittering, Peterborough

Experimental layout:

The strips are 36m wide and the layout is non-replicated in the field.

 

Year 1:

The peas and spring barley were planted last weekend of March 2024.

The legume fallow was planted 12th April 2024.

Year 2:

 

Assessments:

  1. SMN testing for each treatment.
  2. PeaYEN entry.
  3. Observations on pests, disease, weeds and general plant health.
  4. Yield.
