Stephan is a systems agronomist focused on plant nutrition and soil health. He is also heading the spectral laboratory at Rothamsted. He authored or co-authored 139 peer reviewed publications, has currently 6738 citations and an h-index of 41. In the moment he is contributing to several ongoing projects funded by the BBSRC (ASSIST, S2N, Double Burden), the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (GeoNutrition) and industry (OCP).
